Smart shopping at the supermarket

How to go to the supermarket and keep your pocket

Buying food is one of the main items in every family’s budget. The good news is that with proper planning before going out to buy and dealing wisely with the marketing means and promotions at the supermarket, it is possible to reduce this expenditure without significantly lowering the standard of living.

FivePrinciplesof Savingsin Shopping

  1. Check what’s there: Check your pantry and refrigerator. Think back to products that you bought too much and threw away because they expired or rotted.
  2. Make a list: Make a list of products you’ll need in the coming week. You can prepare a weekly family menu according to which you can prepare the list.
  3. Compare prices: Retail chains are obligated to raise the prices of various products online. You can compare the price of the basket you want to buy at supermarkets near you.
  4. Stick to the list: Have you reached the supermarket? Remember that everything you need to buy has already been set up at home. Don’t be tempted to buy a product on sale that you didn’t include in your list.
  5. Use what you buy: Use what you have and avoid perfection at the grocery store. Even when you think the fridge is empty with a little creativity, you can cook delicious and nutritious foods.

Tips for managing in the supermarket

  1. Reach the super-satiety: hungry people buy more and less healthy – Studies show that even a short-term shortage of food (only five hours) can lead to a change in food choices and lead to a greater purchase of less healthy food products.
  2. Take kids or not? Shopping is better to do without children. If you took your children to the supermarket, define in advance and with additional explanations the amount you allocate to each child. Take advantage of the purchase to teach a lesson in financial education: how to compare product prices, how to test a sale, how to give up.
  3. At the right time and place
    • Prefer shopping in a familiar place: When the time spent in the supermarket is small, so does the size of the basket you buy.
    • Recalculate route: The must-buy products are not accidentally located on the far side from the entrance. This is so that the buyer will pass dozens of meters of shelves on his way to bread and milk and be exposed to temptations and promotions. Stick to a supermarket walking trail that matches the products on your list.
    • Shopping online is no more expensive: the prices of food purchased online have declined in recent years and are similar to prices in branches. You do have to pay for shipping, but you save fuel and time, and reduce the temptation to buy products you didn’t plan on.
    • At the end of the day, the price drops: Shop at the open markets, especially towards the end of the week and the end of the day, when prices drop.
    • Prefer supervised products: Purchasingsupervised productswill allow you to reduce the cost of your shopping basket. Next to the shelves where products are supervised, you can see signs listing the supervised food products and their prices.
  4. Size does matter: a paucity of products in a huge cart creates in our subconscious the feeling that we have not bought enough products and that the cart must be filled to make it look more abundant. What to do? Are there small trolleys nearby? Or baskets? Use them if possible.
  5. How often? Shopping is done once a week in a concentrated manner for the whole week. It’s best not to split your purchase into meat, vegetables and detergents. It is better to buy in one place, one purchase, and use what you buy.
  6. Perfectionor not to be?perfection at the grocery store is the biggest threat to the shopping budget. Therefore, it is better to make a concentrated purchase at the supermarket and thus eliminate the need for complete grocery shopping, even for challah. And if you already go to the grocery store, never open an account and register. Pay immediately for what you buy.
  7. Prices are no longer a secret: supermarket chains are obligated to raise the prices of food products in every supermarket online. Different sites make the comparison based on this data. Set a basket and compare prices. In addition, online shopping sites of the various chains can be impressed by the prices of products online and promotions.
    • Who stands behind and on each side: Products at hand and eye level are more expensive than products located on the upper and lower shelves.
    • Compare prices according to the same unit of measurement: supermarket chains are obligated to display the price per unit of measurement (100 grams of product or 100 ml per liquid). Can’t find the information, go to the calculator on your mobile and divide the price into the quantity. Here’s how to compare the price of two products with different packaging sizes.
    • Private labels: Sometimes you can find a private-label product identical to a well-known brand at a cheaper price (look at “Made in” on the label). The store’s private label products are not always cheaper. Test carefully, compare, and then choose.
  8. Deals: Just because a product is on sale is nice, but it doesn’t necessarily mean you need it.
    • InDeco the real deal: Compare the price in the sale not to the original price indicated on the sign but to the real price, the one that characterizes and represents the price of the product throughout the year.
    • Read the fine print: Check the terms and conditions of the promotion, make sure that the promotion is not just for “club members” or that the promotional period ended on Tuesday.
  9. You’ve made it all the way to the checkout, you’ve finished the KennyYa!
    • Don’t be tempted by checkout deals.
    • Don’t pay for food in installments.
    • Check the invoice on the spot. If you find a mistake, request a refund.
