An exercise in prioritization

Most of us can’t buy everything we want. But how do you decide which is more important? How do we choose what to invest our money in, and what can we give up?
In this exercise, students will experience the traffic light method for building priorities, and will make decisions based on the distinction between need and desire and weighing alternatives.

What is the purpose?

Students will make decisions about priorities using the traffic light method, in preparation for defining personal priorities and building a budget

What to do?

We formulate an imaginary list of items that we will take with us to a deserted island, while practicing prioritization using the traffic light method
Talk about wants and needs and priorities as the basis for the budget.

What is needed?

Page to divide into each group
Colored tabs (red, yellow, green) – at least 30 of each color
Stationery and markers
